Video: Aung San Suu Kyi receives Congressional Gold Medal

Aung San Suu Kyi received the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress' highest civilian honor, in an elaborate ceremony yesterday afternoon.

Suu Kyi was awarded the medal in 2008, but because she was under house arrest, she was unable to accept it. Yesterday, she said, was "one of the most moving days of my life."

She is continuing her 17-day U.S. visit with a town hall event hosted by Amnesty International at 11:30 a.m. EDT today; you can watch live video of her talk here. Below is a video of yesterday's medal ceremony at the U.S. Capitol rotunda.

After yesterday's ceremony, Suu Kyi had a private meeting with President Barack Obama, a fellow recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. She will also be giving the annual Godkin Lecture at Harvard Kennedy School next Thursday, September 27; information and tickets are available here.
