Milarepa Ösel Chö Dzong opens in Blount County, Tennessee

Lama Karma and Lama Samten

Happy Valley, Tennessee is now home to a new Buddhist retreat center—Milarepa Ösel Chö Dzong (M.O.C.D.), a group formed at the request of Lama Norlha Rinpoche of the Kagyu lineage. Located on the land of University of Tennessee professor Jefferey Davis, M.O.C.D. has two resident teachers—husband-and-wife Lama Karma and Lama Samten.

Davis, a practicing Buddhist, plans to dedicate the land to the retreat. Located on 30 acres of land, the retreat center plans to one day offer up to a dozen private retreat cabins to be available for solitary and group retreats. They hope to accomplish this within the next five years and also plan to build a stupa.
